In America The early performance arts achievements of the young Maureen FitzSimons (who we know as Maureen O'Hara) would definitely be in the category of child prodigies. A child of Irish origins, who was surrounded she was by gifted parents and family members, this came naturally. Maureen was welcomed into this cherished refuge located in Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th of 1920. Marguerita FitzSimons was a gifted contralto. Charles FitzSimons was a successful businessman from Dublin who also owned a piece of the Irish soccer team Shamrock Rovers. Maureen was the third of six FitzSimons children - Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen enjoyed rough sports as an infant and was extremely good at them. Her talent for performing was the perfect match for her love of athletics. This is why she was awarded almost all of the Feis Awards for her dramatic and acting performances within her own country. She was accepted at the Abbey Theater by age 14, and she continued to pursue her dream of opera and classical singing and theater.
